Rhythm Kids® classes are designed to help your children move to the next stage of musical development!
Rhythm Kids® is an exciting music, movement, and drumming program for children ages 4 - 8. This program follows through on the Music Together® vision to help children complete the path of early childhood music development for birth through age 8. Children will explore the world of rhythm through movement, instrument play and song using their bodies, djembes, and voices!
The Rhythm Kids® program is offered in two levels in some semesters; RK classes include:
* Weekly 45 minute classes
* For Fall 2025, the Aligator Collection illustrated songbook, CD If you request it (no charge) and download code
* Access to online drum-play/tutorial videos.
We require parent participation in both levels of this class, just as we do in all our classes (and they might enjoy the drumming themselves!). Also we prefer younger siblings not attend; please contact us to inquire about this.
Djembes: djembe drums will be provided for the class each week but if you'd like your child to have a drum to play with at home, please contact Robin and she can guide you on where to get them.
A NOTE ON LEVELS: currently our Rhythm Kids® are "mixed level" classes.
Rhythm Kids® Level One - for children ages 4 - 5
Rhythm Kids® Level 1 is geared for preschoolers who are ready to take their next music step. Each week we drum, sing, dance, play instruments and begin to play music-based games. Rhythm Kids® Level 1 guides children toward developmentally appropriate music and movement activities, where they can begin to take charge, lead others, and be musically creative as they make up their own drumming patterns, invent new ways to play rhythm instruments, create movement ideas for songs and even take a drum solo!
Rhythm Kids® Level Two - for children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade (ages 5 - 8)
Rhythm Kids® Level 2 is an exciting drumming, music and movement class for children in Kindergarten through second grade. Children integrate and assimilate rhythm by learning multicultural drumming patterns, developing new repertoire on various percussion instruments, learning music-reading readiness, exploring movement and dance while singing songs and by playing fun, music-based games! As part of the Rhythm Kids® experience, children and their grownups can enjoy drumming play and practice sessions at home with the help of online play-along videos featuring Rhythm Kids® creator Tom Foote. Consider this the beginning step of instrument study!
Masks are optional; you and your child can still wear masks; it just won't be required! See our protocols for all indoor classes.
